Double pole technique: Okay, so how do you DO that?
Dec 12 2007, 8:28 PM EST Coach, that classic double-poling video is amazing. The skiers look like they are flying over their skis. Are there exercises that will help a young skier learn how to ski with that kind of abandon? Do you find this valuable? |

RE: Double pole technique: Okay, so how do you DO that?
Dec 13 2007, 9:07 AM EST In the off-season, I think one of the most important things to be doing is double-pole technique on rollerskiis. I would recommend that at least 50% of summer rollerski training should be double pole, with the majority going on in the early summer, say for example 75% of total rollerski training should be double pole training for the months of April and May, 50% in June and July, and 25% August and September. Additionally, all strength workouts should be based around building core strength. Look up some strength exercises using those big inflatable exercise balls, and also those boku balls which are small half balls that you stand on and make balance difficult. These are all things you should be doing to build strength in the off season. Once you start to shift your focus towards technique as the season starts coming up, probably around August and September, you need to be thinking about body position on your skis. Soon I will post some pictures in this section which will illustrate my point better. When it comes to technique, verbal communication is difficult, as people often interpret messages differently. So I like to use visual representation, and it leaves less to the imagination. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |
